Microsoft Dynamics AX relies on a single Microsoft SQL Server database to store data and application elements. During upgrade, an additional database, the baseline model store is used.
The database contains two primary types of tables from Microsoft Dynamics AX:
• Tables that can be accessed from the data dictionary in the AOT, that can be one of three types:
o Tables persisted in the SQL database.
o Temporary tables stored in the TempDb.
o Temporary tables stored in memory and files.
• Tables that can be accessed from the system documentation section of the AOT: kernel and model store tables.
o Kernel and model store tables are visible in the AOT under the System documentation > Tables node. They cannot be directly imported, modified, or changed.
