In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, the client components are contained in a
separate .msi file, unlike previous versions, where components are contained in
an .msi (installer) file that also contains other components. A separate client
installer provides more options for mass deployment of clients. In addition, you
can now use Setup to create a shared client configuration file and set up all
clients to use a shared configuration file.
