Install an Environment

This topic describes installation of the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 database
and application object server.

As part of installing the database, you must identify any additional
model filesthat are required for your environment. Model data files contain metadata
information about application objects and are stored in the database. They replace
Application Object Definition (AOD) files. For more information about model
files, refer to the "Overview and Planning" chapter in this course.

The AOS is a Windows service that controls communications among Microsoft
Dynamics AX 2012 clients, databases, and applications.
The Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 client is an interface to Microsoft Dynamics
AX 2012 data and functionality. When you install a Microsoft Dynamics AX
2012 client, the following components are included:
The Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 interface that connects to an AOS.

The Microsoft Dynamics AX Configuration utility.

BEST PRACTICE: If you are installing a large number of clients, it is
recommended that you install them from a file server and create a shared
configuration file. For more information, refer to the "Client deployments" topic
in this chapter.
