In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, the Setup application and its files are installed
on the computer as the first step in the installation process. Installing the files on
the computer means that service packs or hot fixes can be applied to the Setup
files like other Microsoft Dynamics AX files. When Setup starts, it verifies
whether you have downloaded a more recent version of the files and installs them
if they are available.
